electrophoresis, which has a reported sensitivity of 91% in diagnosing CSF leakage (4 ). For the automated assay from Dade Behring, a range of 0.22–1.69 mg/L for healthy individuals was reported, and a cutoff at 1.31 mg/L (97.5 percentile) was proposed (9 ). At concentrations between 1.31 and 1.69 mg/L, however, there is overlap of individuals without and patients with CSF leakage (9 ). In our study, -trace protein measured without predilution was 1 mg/L in individuals without CSF leakage. In the earlier study, nasal fluids were partly prediluted 1:100. At a cutoff of 1 mg/L, the Dade Behring assay had a 100% sensitivity (78–100%; P 0.05) and specificity (86–100%; P 0.05) for diagnosing a CSF leakage. Thus, in our opinion the nephelometric quantification of -trace protein is preferable, particularly because this method is less timeconsuming and labor-intensive than the electrophoretic method.

The association of fFN testing on hospital admissions for preterm labor
Objective: To determine if the use of fetal fibronectin (fFN) testing has affected hospital admissions for preterm labor. Methods: ICD-9 and CPT codes from all admissions to Brigham & Women’s Hospital between January 1, 1995 and December 31, 2010 were evaluated. Data recorded included total deliveries, admissions for preterm labor (PTL) without delivery, length of stay (days) for PTL admissions...
متن کاملP-179: The Role of Fetal Sex on Preterm Labor
Background: Preterm labor is a major problem in obstetric practice. Rates of preterm birth vary between different populations and ethnic groups. In maternal fetal medicine, gender differences in outcome are often observed. Epidemiologic studies have suggested that the incidence of preterm birth is also higher in pregnancies carrying a male fetus. The purpose of this article is to review the evi...

OBJECTIVE The fetal fibronectin test is advocated to facilitate the management of women presenting with threatened preterm labour, but is underutilised in Hong Kong. This study aimed to provide experience with this test and evaluate its utility in a local setting. DESIGN Prospective cohort study. SETTING A university-affiliated hospital in Hong Kong. متن کاملInterleukin 6 and fetal fibronectin as a predictors of preterm delivery in symptomatic patients.
Preterm delivery is the leading cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity. The rate of preterm births has been estimated to be about 15 million, which accounts for 11.1% of all live births worldwide. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the cervico-vaginal (CVF) cytokine IL-6 and fetal fibronectin (fFN) status as predictors of preterm delivery in patients with symptoms of preterm labor. Pa...
متن کاملHigh-risk Pregnancy Series: an Expert’s View
Studies of cervical sonography, fetal fibronectin, and uterine contraction monitoring during pregnancy have improved our understanding of how preterm labor occurs, but their use in practice remains uncertain. This article reviews the use of these tests to improve the accuracy of diagnosis of preterm labor and to estimate the likelihood of preterm birth in women with historical risk factors. Bec...
